Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a BESS Engineer III to design, develop, and optimize battery energy storage systems for utility-scale projects. This fully remote role provides strategic technical direction and engineering oversight to ensure performance, reliability, and safety across nationwide deployments.

You will mentor engineers, review specifications, support procurement, and ensure regulatory compliance while collaborating with cross-functional teams and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis tools (PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA, and utility standards.
• Understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• PE license preferred; ability to mentor and lead on projects.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes guiding project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of BESS; ensure compliance with contracts and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses.
• Collaborate across electrical, civil, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners for timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement and vendor reviews.
• Design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems with internal teams and contractors.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance.
• Support construction with field issue resolution and design clarifications.
• Provide testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and synchronization support.
• Mentor junior engineers; share lessons learned on BESS principles.
• Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Support business development through proposals and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in customer meetings; participate in team calls.
• Travel as required to support project execution.
