Job summary

Travelers is seeking an Outside Auto Appraiser to inspect damaged vehicles, estimate repair costs, and determine actual cash value for settlements. This remote role may involve on-site visits to body shops or customer locations and requires strong technical knowledge of vehicle damage assessment and customer service.

You will work with repair facilities, adjusters, and claim staff to ensure accurate settlements while adapting to digital tools and new technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Active adjuster license, where applicable.
• Two years of auto physical damage appraisal experience.
• Proficient in claims management and estimating software; advanced in MS Office and enterprise platforms.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and assess vehicle damage via on-site or virtual inspections at body shops or customer locations.
• Review estimates and collaborate with repair facilities to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Prepare repair estimates using standard estimating software for parts, labor, and materials.
• Determine actual cash value (ACV) through market research and valuation tools.
• Negotiate repair costs and settlements to reach fair resolutions while maintaining quality standards.
• Identify pre-existing damage and potential fraud indicators to protect company interests.
• Coordinate with claim representatives, shops, and vendors to resolve issues and authorize supplements.
• Explain the appraisal process to customers and keep them informed throughout the claim lifecycle.
