Job summary

Travelers is seeking an Outside Auto Appraiser to inspect damaged vehicles, estimate repair costs, and settle total losses. This remote, customer‑facing role requires technical expertise in vehicle damage assessment and the ability to work independently across broad locations.

You will support claim staff and vendors, ensuring accurate valuations and timely resolutions. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree, an active adjuster license, and at least two years of auto appraisal experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Active adjuster license, where applicable.
• Two years of auto physical damage appraisal experience.
• Proficient in claims management and estimating software; strong Office/enterprise tech skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication; ability to convey information clearly.
• Ability to learn new technology quickly.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and assess vehicle damage via virtual or on-site inspections at body shops or customer locations.
• Review estimates, conduct virtual inspections, collaborate with repair facilities for accuracy and consistency.
• Prepare repair estimates using standard software to determine parts, labor, and materials costs.
• Determine actual cash value (ACV) of total losses through market research and comparables.
• Negotiate repair costs and settlements with shops and customers to reach fair resolutions.
• Identify pre-existing damage, prior repairs, and fraud indicators to ensure accurate evaluation.
• Coordinate repairs with claims teammates and vendors; authorize supplements as needed.
• Explain the appraisal process to customers and keep them informed through the lifecycle.
