This is a contractor role through X-Team. You’ll help build a new React Native app for one of the world’s largest annual festivals of music, film, and technology. The custom-built app replaces a white-label vendor solution and needs to deliver a seamless, high-performance experience for attendees navigating packed schedules, interactive maps, sessions, and personalized event lists.
You’ll focus on core React Native development with a strong emphasis on native iOS engineering in Swift. You’ll build custom native modules when existing libraries fall short, integrate mapping and push notification services, and optimize performance across large datasets.
This is a high-visibility app with demanding real-world conditions. You’ll need to keep the experience responsive under heavy traffic, ensure smooth scrolling even with large amounts of event data, and maintain consistent functionality across iOS and Android.
Current, hands-on experience building and maintaining high-traffic, production-grade React Native applications.
Deep native iOS development experience with Swift, including bridging native code to React Native through custom Native Modules or TurboModules.
Production experience integrating and optimizing Google Maps SDK within React Native applications.
Direct experience configuring Apple Push Notification service (APNs) through Airship or equivalent enterprise providers, and implementing iOS Universal Links.
Strong mobile performance optimization skills, including rendering large, dynamic lists with FlashList or FlatList, memory management, and preventing crashes under heavy data loads.
Proven ability to maintain functional and visual consistency across iOS and Android releases.
Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with Android engineers and deliver reliable, production-ready features.
Experience with Apple TipKit for contextual onboarding and EventKit for native calendar synchronization.
Experience building real-time data features, such as venue capacity indicators, live status updates, or streaming data interfaces.
Hands-on experience implementing native iOS QR code scanning and NFC reader integrations.
Experience developing event, ticketing, mapping, or other data-intensive consumer mobile applications.
You know when React Native is enough and when a native Swift implementation is the better solution, making pragmatic decisions based on performance and platform requirements.
You care about the details that make an app feel fast and reliable, from smooth scrolling to efficient memory usage under heavy data loads.
You anticipate platform-specific challenges and work proactively with Android engineers to keep both experiences aligned.
You take ownership of complex integrations, digging into native APIs and building custom solutions when off-the-shelf libraries aren't enough.
You balance technical quality with delivery speed, keeping the attendee experience at the center of every engineering decision.
May change based on various factors (role, profile completeness, etc).
