About The Role

This role owns people strategy for our R&D org, partnering with Engineering, Product, and Design leaders to scale teams, develop talent, and build high-performing, healthy organizations. We've built a strong foundation and are looking for a strong HRBP to continue to invest in our people as we grow - ensuring everyone has clarity of expectations, opportunities to develop, and the support they need to do their best work. You'll be a strategic partner to our R&D leadership teams, helping them be effective people leaders while staying closely connected to what's happening at the IC level. This role requires someone who can build credibility quickly with technical leaders, coach them through complexity, and help navigate the changes that come with scaling.

We’re a remote-first company, but we’d like this role to be based in Toronto. We have a strong local presence there, with teammates who enjoy co-working days and building community in person.

Some Of The Things You’ll Do
  • Partner proactively with R&D leadership on talent strategy, org design, and team health - becoming a trusted advisor they turn to before problems escalate
  • Enable clear, effective performance management across R&D - facilitating calibration cycles, helping leaders give meaningful feedback, and ensuring people understand what great looks like at each level using our career framework
  • Partner closely with Recruiting on hiring strategy and execution for R&D, from defining role requirements and leveling to interview process design and offer decisions, ensuring we continue to hire people who raise the bar
  • Help R&D teams navigate change as we grow, supporting leaders in communicating context, addressing concerns, and helping teams adapt to change
  • Build trust with individual contributors and become a channel they actually use - proactively understanding what's happening across teams, surfacing themes and tensions to leadership, and bringing context you can't get any other way
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the People Ops team in the design, delivery and ongoing improvement of new and cyclical people programs (performance reviews, pulse survey, etc.).
About You
  • 6-8+ years as an HRBP or People Partner, with significant experience supporting R&D or technical organizations - you understand how engineers, product managers, and designers think and work
  • You're skilled at influencing leaders with empathy and directness to build strong relationships - you know how to earn credibility, challenge thinking constructively, and insert yourself into conversations where you can add value rather than waiting to be invited
  • You know how to make performance management work in practice - creating clarity on expectations, enabling regular feedback, and ensuring people know where they stand
  • You bring a playbook from past experience but adapt it creatively to new contexts. You've seen complexity before and know how to navigate it with systems-level thinking
  • You have hands-on experience leading core HRBP programs: talent reviews, calibration, headcount planning, org design, and employee relations
  • You're comfortable working in a remote, fast-moving environment where priorities shift and you need to manage ambiguity with minimal direction

  • Experience at companies between 100-500 employees navigating rapid scaling
  • Curiosity and experimentation with applying AI tools to people work
Compensation
  • The annual base salary range for this position in Canada is $140,000 - $166,000 CAD, plus equity and benefits. This range is designed to align with market rates in areas where we are actively recruiting across Canada.
  • The range displayed reflects the target for new hire salaries, and within this range, individual pay is determined by your skills and experience, as well as relevant education. Your recruiter can share more and answer questions about the specific salary range during the hiring process.
  • Salary is just one component of Quo’s total compensation package. Your total rewards package will include equity, extensive medical coverage, a monthly lifestyle stipend, and a flexible PTO policy.
