This is a contractor role through X-Team. You’ll lead the technical architecture and delivery of a new iOS and Android app for one of the world’s largest annual festivals of music, film, and technology. The custom React Native app replaces a white-label vendor solution and needs to deliver a reliable, seamless experience for attendees at scale.
You’ll own the app’s architecture, authentication and badge-linking flows, offline capabilities, and release pipeline. Working closely with the client’s team, you’ll set engineering standards, review code, and identify API, data, and integration gaps before they become blockers.
The launch date doesn’t move. The festival starts when it starts. The app must clear both app stores, handle massive traffic spikes when reservations open, and remain reliable even when thousands of attendees are navigating poor event connectivity.
Senior-level experience building and maintaining high-traffic React Native applications in production.
Hands-on native iOS and Android development, including custom native modules and platform-specific code in Swift/Objective-C and Kotlin/Java.
End-to-end ownership of mobile releases, including CI/CD configuration, code signing, and shipping applications through Apple App Store and Google Play reviews.
Direct experience implementing SSO and account or badge-linking flows using OAuth 2.0 and SAML.
Production experience integrating push notification services such as Airship, Google Maps SDK, Universal Links on iOS, and App Links on Android.
Proven ability to architect mobile apps for high traffic and unreliable connectivity, including offline caching and state management.
Technical leadership experience defining engineering standards, reviewing code, and advising client stakeholders.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to identify and elevate API, data, and integration gaps early.
Hands-on experience building accessible mobile interfaces compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
Experience developing high-traffic consumer applications in event management, ticketing, entertainment, or live media.
Experience replacing a white-label mobile solution with a custom-built application.
You take ownership of technical decisions and can explain the trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
You anticipate risks around integrations, authentication, performance, and app store approvals rather than waiting for them to become blockers.
You design for real-world conditions, balancing performance, reliability, and the attendee experience when connectivity is unreliable and traffic spikes unexpectedly.
You set clear engineering standards while collaborating with existing teams, making pragmatic decisions that keep the project moving toward launch.
You’re comfortable being the primary technical point of contact, raising concerns early, and helping the client make informed decisions under a fixed deadline.
May change based on various factors (role, profile completeness, etc).
