Job summary

Plante Moran invites you to join as an accounting intern focused on public sector clients—cities, libraries, and K-12 districts. You’ll assist in bank reconciliations, budget prep, and year-end closes, building confidence in clients’ financial health.

You’ll work with teams to analyze assets, liabilities, and equity, draft policies, and learn development paths for CPA/CIA licensure while enjoying the firm’s supportive, growth-oriented culture. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting; or Master's degree in accounting or tax.
• Academic success (a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0).
• Preferred: On track to complete the requisite degree and supporting credits to sit for the CPA or CIA exam, with the goal of obtaining the CPA or CIA license.

Responsibilities

• Providing financial staffing and related consulting support to public sector clients (cities, villages, libraries, K-12 school districts, etc…).
• Assisting our public clients with their accounting and finance functions including bank reconciliations, budget development, year-end close of financial records and preparation for annual audit, and related support
• Verifies, allocates, and posts details of client transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from documents, such as bank statements, invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer printouts
• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting client transactions
• Working independently or in teams to improve client accounting operations including drafting policies and procedures
• Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and equity, and prepares balance sheet, statement of revenues and expenditures, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial position
• Collaborating with other consultants and clients for continuous improvement recommendations
• Training and development opportunities for professional, personal and technical growth
