Job summary

Plante Moran is seeking a Governmental Accounting Practice Intern for Summer 2027 in the United States. You will join a team serving public sector clients such as cities, schools, and other organizations, gaining hands-on experience in accounting and financial health.

As an intern, you'll be treated like entry-level staff, with opportunities to craft business solutions beyond routine spreadsheets, and to develop professionally through training and mentoring.

Qualifications

• Detail-oriented leader with problem solving, communication, organizational, technical and analytical skills.
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with emphasis in accounting; or Master's degree in accounting or tax.
• Academic success (a minimum GPA of 3.0).
• Preferred: On track to sit for the CPA or CIA exam, with the goal of obtaining the license.

Responsibilities

• Providing financial staffing and related consulting support to public sector clients (cities, villages, libraries, K-12 school districts, etc.)
• Assisting our public clients with their accounting and finance functions including bank reconciliations, budget development, perform year-end close of financial records and preparation for annual audit, and related support
• Verifies, allocates, and posts details of client transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from documents, such as bank statements, invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer printouts
• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting client transactions
• Working independently or in teams to improve client accounting operations including drafting policies and procedures
• Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and equity, and prepares balance sheet, statement of revenues and expenditures, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial position
• Collaborating with other consultants and clients for continuous improvement recommendations
• Training and development opportunities for professional, personal and technical growth
