Job summary

Plante Moran invites an accounting intern to join our team, supporting public sector clients such as cities, schools, and libraries. You’ll assist with bank reconciliations, budgets, year-end closes, and audit prep, gaining hands-on experience in client-facing finance work.

You will work under supervision to develop technical skills, learn policies, and participate in professional growth opportunities while pursuing CPA/CIA prep.

Qualifications

• Detail-oriented leader with problem solving, communication, organizational, technical and analytical skills.
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting; or Master's degree in accounting or tax.
• Academic success (a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0).
• Preferred: on track to complete the requisite degree and CPA or CIA exam prep.

Responsibilities

• Providing financial staffing and related consulting support to public sector clients (cities, villages, libraries, K-12 school districts, etc…).
• Assisting our public clients with their accounting and finance functions including bank reconciliations, budget development, year-end close and audit prep.
• Verifies, allocates, and posts details of client transactions to subsidiary accounts from source documents.
• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts and balance sheets.
• Working independently or in teams to improve client accounting operations including drafting policies and procedures.
• Analyses financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and equity, and prepares reports.
• Collaborating with other consultants and clients for continuous improvement recommendations.
• Training and development opportunities for professional, personal and technical growth.
