Job summary

Plante Moran invites motivated interns to join our public sector practice in Michigan. You’ll provide accounting and financial support to cities, schools, and libraries, performing reconciliations, budgeting, year-end close, and audit prep.

You’ll work with seasoned consultants and gain exposure to policy drafting and process improvement, with robust development opportunities. The internship emphasizes growth, flexibility within our in-person culture, and exposure to diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Detail-oriented leader with problem solving, communication, organizational, technical and analytical skills.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting; or Master's in accounting or tax is required or preferred.
• Academic success with GPA 3.0 or higher.
• On track to complete degree and credits to sit for CPA or CIA exams.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial staffing and related consulting support to public sector clients (cities, villages, libraries, K-12 school districts, etc.).
• Assist public clients with accounting and finance functions including bank reconciliations, budget development, year-end close, and audit preparation.
• Verify, allocate, and post client transaction details to subsidiary accounts from statements and documents.
• Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts and general ledger.
• Work independently or in teams to improve client accounting operations, drafting policies and procedures.
• Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and equity; prepare balance sheets and other reports.
• Collaborate with consultants and clients for continuous improvement recommendations.
• Participate in training and development opportunities for professional and technical growth.
