Job summary

Plante Moran is seeking an accounting internship focused on public sector clients. You’ll provide financial staffing and support for cities, schools, and libraries, including accounting tasks, reconciliations, budgeting, and year-end close.

You’ll work independently or with teams to improve client operations and gain training across professional and technical growth areas. Preferred candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in accounting or tax with GPA 3.0+ and a path toward CPA or CIA

Qualifications

• Detail-oriented with problem solving, communication, organizational, technical and analytical skills.
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting; or Master’s degree in accounting or tax.
• Academic success (a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0).
• Preferred: On track to complete the requisite degree and supporting credits to sit for the CPA or CIA exam, with the goal of obtaining the CIA or CPA license.

Responsibilities

• Providing financial staffing and related consulting support to public sector clients (cities, villages, libraries, K-12 school districts, etc…).
• Assisting our public clients with their accounting and finance functions including bank reconciliations, budget development, perform year-end close of financial records and preparation for annual audit, and related support
• Verifies, allocates, and posts details of client transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from documents, such as bank statements, invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer printouts
• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting client transactions
• Working independently or in teams to improve client accounting operations including drafting policies and procedures
• Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and equity, and prepares balance sheet, statement of revenues and expenditures, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial position
• Collaborating with other consultants and clients for continuous improvement recommendations
• Training and development opportunities for professional, personal and technical growth
