Job summary

Plante Moran is offering an internship opportunity focused on public sector accounting and advisory services. From day one, you’ll contribute to critical financial staffing and consulting work for cities, schools, and libraries, while gaining hands-on experience in budgeting, audits, and policy development.

You'll work with seasoned professionals to improve client accounting operations, analyze financial information, and participate in training for professional and technical growth.

Qualifications

• Detail-oriented, problem solving, communication, organizational, technical and analytical skills.
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with emphasis in accounting; or Master's in accounting or tax.
• Academic success with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Preferred: on track to CPA or CIA exam and licensure.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial staffing and consulting support to public sector clients (cities, villages, libraries, K-12 districts, etc.).
• Assist clients with accounting/finance functions: bank reconciliations, budget development, year-end close, audit prep.
• Verify, allocate and post client transactions to subsidiary accounts from bank statements, invoices, receipts, etc.
• Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts.
• Work independently or in teams to improve client accounting operations, drafting policies and procedures.
• Analyze assets, liabilities, and equity; prepare balance sheet, revenue/expense statements, and other reports.
• Collaborate with consultants and clients for continuous improvement recommendations.
• Training and development opportunities for professional, personal, and technical growth.
