Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an Electrical SME to lead power systems for hyperscale data center programs, from utility interconnection to IT equipment receptacle, including MV/LV distribution, UPS topology, and generator paralleling.

You will mentor engineers, shape Jacobs' electrical standards, and engage with clients and professional societies to drive innovative, compliant, and efficient power solutions. Hybrid, U.S.-based, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (ABET‑accredited).
• PE license active in at least one US state; NCEES reciprocal licensure. PE is a condition of employment.
• 20+ years of professional electrical engineering; 15+ years in mission‑critical data center or advanced technology facility design.
• Power systems expertise in MV/LV distribution design, UPS topology, generator sizing/paralleling, transfer switching, and redundancy for Tier III/IV facilities.
• Proficiency with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower—short‑circuit, protection coordination, arc flash per IEEE 1584, load flow modeling.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70/110/72, IEEE 3000 series, NESC, IEC, Uptime Institute Tier criteria.
• Tools & delivery: AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, Bluebeam; ability to manage design intent within Design‑Build/EPCM contracts.

Responsibilities

• Lead upfront power systems planning with hyperscale clients — MV/LV distribution, redundancy strategies (2N, N+1, 2(N+1)).
• Drive full power chain from MV switchgear through UPS, generator paralleling, transfer switching, PDUs, busway; lead power systems studies (short‑circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow).
• Champion power‑efficient design, BESS integration, renewables, and AI/GPU power density scaling; develop Jacobs’ electrical standards and calculation libraries.
• Provide technical governance across discipline teams and partners — review calculations, drawings, submittals, and support commissioning/IST for critical power systems.
• Mentor electrical engineers; contribute to IEEE/NFPA/Uptime Institute activities; support design‑build delivery with clear design intent and code compliance.
