Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver foundational services for real-time recommendations on the NBA platform. You will own state machine design, transactional outbox, and ensure exactly-once semantics under high concurrency.

This hands-on leadership role combines system design, mentoring, and coding across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript to keep services observable, production-ready, and enterprise-scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering with 1–2 years leading platform reliability or production operations initiatives.
• Strong experience building production software across Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks, including integration and load testing.
• Strong observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.

Responsibilities

• Pod delivery: Own delivery for the platform scale and reliability pod across NBA platform.
• Platform reliability: Ensure uptime, performance, resilience and operational excellence.
• Quality engineering: Build and maintain automated testing frameworks and quality gates.
• Hands-on development: Write production code; build reliability tooling and observability capabilities.
• Observability and monitoring: Own logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy.
• Production readiness: Define release readiness criteria and handoff standards across services.
• Team leadership: Mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews and uphold standards.
• Cross-team coordination: Partner with decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform and data teams.
