Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to architect and deliver the NBA decisioning platform. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, write production code, mentor engineers, and drive reliability across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript components.

You will collaborate with platform, data, and product teams, establish observability standards, implement automated testing, and ensure production readiness for scalable, auditable healthcare software.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
8+ years of full-stack engineering experience with 1–2 years leading platform reliability or production operations initiatives.
Experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript backend stacks.
Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/end-to-end/load).
Strong observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.
Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems, including fault tolerance, retries, resilience, and recovery.
Ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractor resources while remaining an active individual contributor.
Experience operating cloud-native applications on Kubernetes and container platforms.
Clear communicator who can articulate operational risks and tradeoffs to technical leaders.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot.

Responsibilities

Own delivery for platform scale and reliability pod, including planning and production readiness.
Maintain uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence across platform services.
Build and maintain automated testing frameworks and quality gates.
Contribute production code alongside the team and develop reliability tooling.
Own platform logging, metrics, tracing, alerts, and monitoring strategy.
Define patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, and diagnostic tooling.
Lead scalability initiatives as membership grows.
Define and enforce release readiness criteria and operational gates.
Mentor engineers and manage contractors while maintaining IC contribution.
Collaborate across decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
