Job summary

Humana is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver foundational services for real-time recommendations within the NBA platform. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring robust, auditable, and scalable outcomes in a regulated healthcare environment.

The role blends hands-on coding with technical leadership, mentoring a small team, and partnering with platform, data, and product teams to enforce reliability and performance at enterprise scale.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with leadership in reliability or production operations.
• Experience building production software across Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript stacks.
• Hands-on design of automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/end-to-end/load).
• Strong observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerting.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Ability to lead a small engineering pod while contributing individually.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot).

Responsibilities

• Own platform reliability, quality engineering, and production readiness for the NBA platform.
• Define and implement automated testing, observability, and reliability tooling.
• Mentor engineers and manage contractor resources while contributing as an IC.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across decisioning, orchestration, and activation.
