Job summary

Humana seeks a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver foundational services enabling real-time recommendations. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring robust, auditable, scalable outcomes with high concurrency and latency demands.

You will lead a small team, set technical standards, and collaborate across platform, data, and product teams while delivering production-ready, observable software built on Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with 1-2 years leading platform reliability or production operations initiatives.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks across unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Strong observability practices including logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems (fault tolerance, retries, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for platform scale and reliability pod, including planning and operational readiness.
• Ensure uptime, performance, resilience, and observability across platform services.
• Develop automated testing frameworks and quality gates.
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and platform infrastructure.
• Define logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting strategies for deep visibility.
• Lead and mentor engineers; conduct code reviews and uphold standards.
• Collaborate with cross-team decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
