Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver real-time recommendation services within the NBA platform. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring scalable, auditable, and exactly-once processing across distributed systems.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will mentor engineers, set technical standards, and collaborate with platform, data, and product teams to drive reliability, testing, and production readiness at enterprise scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering with leadership experience in reliability/production operations.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on in automated testing frameworks and quality automation.
• Strong observability practices including logging, metrics, tracing, and alerts.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems.
• Proven ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractor resources.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Clear communicator to technical leadership and executives.
• Experience using modern AI tools to improve productivity and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own platform scale and reliability pod including planning, execution and readiness.
• Ensure uptime, performance, resilience, and observability across services.
• Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks across levels.
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and monitoring.
• Define and enforce release readiness criteria and quality gates.
• Lead and mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews.
• Coordinate with decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
• Promote best practices for observability, fault tolerance, and incident response.
