Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver scalable real-time recommendations. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox for exact-once semantics, while guiding a team of engineers across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.

You will drive automated testing, observability, and production readiness in a hands-on role, mentoring peers and collaborating with platform, data, and product teams to deliver enterprise-grade resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is required.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with leadership in reliability or production operations.
• Experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript in production systems.
• Hands-on with automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, E2E, load).
• Strong observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerting.
• Ability to lead a small pod and mentor engineers while contributing as a hands-on coder.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Clear communicator for risks and tradeoffs to executives.

Responsibilities

• Pod delivery ownership for platform scale and reliability.
• Own uptime, performance, resilience and operational excellence across services.
• Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks and quality standards.
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and observability features.
• Define and enforce release readiness and quality gates for production ownership.
• Lead and mentor engineers and contractors, conduct code reviews.
