Job summary

Bassett Healthcare Network is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician to perform blood specimen collection across adult and pediatric patients and to manage orders, processing, and referrals in the LIS. You will ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and timely specimen handling per hospital policies.

Responsibilities include labeling, verifying patient identity, and delivering STAT samples while maintaining specimen integrity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year of experience in a similar capacity is preferred but not required.
• CPT-A Phlebotomy Certification from training in a formal phlebotomy program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients by name, date of birth and medical record number prior to specimen collection.
• Performs routine/STAT phlebotomy and labels specimens in patient presence.
• Collects high-quality venous and capillary specimens from all ages.
• Verifies specimens and requisitions for proper lab testing and transport.
• Enters orders in LIS and delivers STAT/urgent specimens promptly.
• Maintains specimen integrity and follows lab policies and procedures.
• Assists with training of new staff as requested.
