Job summary

Bassett Healthcare Network is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician in New York. You will collect blood specimens from adult and pediatric patients, ensure proper labeling and handling, and support lab processes from specimen receipt to result reporting.

You’ll work within HIPAA guidelines and hospital policies to maintain specimen integrity and timely processing. You will verify patient identity, prepare and transport samples to reference labs as needed, and assist with training while meeting

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of experience in a similar capacity preferred.
• CPT-A Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) preferred after training in a formal program.

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients by name, DOB and medical record number before specimen collection.
• Performs phlebotomy (venous and capillary) for adult and pediatric patients.
• Labels specimens in patient presence and ensures specimen integrity.
• Communicates with patients, explains procedures, and maintains HIPAA confidentiality.
• Collects high-quality specimens meeting test requirements and turnaround times.
• Processes specimens in LIS, enters orders accurately, and handles urgent samples promptly.
• Delivers specimens to reference labs and follows all lab policies and procedures.
• Assists with training of new staff and performs duties within scope of practice.
