Job summary

Bassett Healthcare Network is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician to collect blood specimens from adult and pediatric patients, perform phlebotomy, and manage LIS entries and specimen processing. Responsibilities include ensuring proper patient identification and specimen labeling, maintaining privacy, and coordinating transportation to reference laboratories.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPT-A Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• 1 year of similar LST experience preferred but not required (LST I).
• 1 year of LST experience required (LST II).
• 2 years of LST experience required (LST III).

Responsibilities

• Identify patients by verifying name, DOB, and MRN before specimen collection.
• Collect venous and capillary blood specimens from all age groups.
• Label specimens in patient presence and document in LIS.
• Process requisitions, batch logs, and ensure proper transport to testing labs.
• Deliver STAT/urgent specimens promptly and assist with training.
