Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Meat, Dairy, Frozen, and Bakery sections, ensuring fresh product, accurate pricing, and strong customer service. You will manage stock levels, training, safety, and scheduling to support store performance.

You will monitor planograms, MD reductions, and weekly order guides while maintaining compliance with sanitation standards and company policies across all perishable areas.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, percentages).
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control.
• Ability to perform cash register functions and operate point-of-sale equipment.
• Knowledge of safety policies and practices and compliance with regulations.
• Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
• Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required food handling certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using available tools and guides.
• Utilize Current Ads/Planners, Produce Order Guide, Fresh Meat/ Bread inventory guides to plan orders.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards in perishable areas.
• Train associates in safe handling of food in compliance with rules and regulations.
• Ensure adequate scheduling coverage with Store Manager and Assistant Manager.
• Record Perishable Markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Train on grading and re-packaging in produce to minimize markdowns (MDs).
• Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
• Ensure sanitation standards are met and train staff using Cleaning Schedule.
