Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Fresh Meat, Dairy, Frozen, and Bakery areas. You will manage stock, ensure appealing merchandising, and provide quality customer service while protecting company assets and enforcing food handling rules.

You will train associates, monitor inventory and ordering guides, and maintain safety standards in a fast-paced retail environment. This role emphasizes teamwork and leadership in store operations.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform basic math calculations (add/sub/multiply/divide/percentages).
• Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability and deposit control.
• Ability to operate a cash register.
• Knowledge of safety policies and loss prevention practices.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Understanding of safety policies and food handling rules.
• Ability to read plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications in food handling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using the following tools.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness and pricing standards for all perishable areas.
• Assist in training staff in safe handling of food in compliance with regulations.
• Assist in training staff in hourly recovery standards to model store standards.
• Assist in stocking and rotation of perishable products.
• Assist Store Manager in ensuring adequate scheduling coverage.
• Record Perishable Markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Ensure sanitation standards and train associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
