Job summary

St. Luke’s University Health Network in Hazleton is seeking a Patient Access Representative to manage the patient registration process across outpatient and Emergency Department locations. The role includes identifying patients, transcribing orders, verifying insurance, and ensuring accurate data entry in the EMR.

The position requires excellent customer service, strong computer skills, and knowledge of medical terminology. Travel between campuses may be required.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required.
• General computer experience and ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly required.
• Insurance background preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify and validate patients in the hospital information system to maintain EMR integrity and accuracy; report possible identity theft to leadership.
• Maintain knowledge of network policy on patient identification, including merge, chart corrections, and patient look-up.
• Handle patient registration tasks: demographics, emergency contact, orders transcription, insurance and guarantor verification, real-time eligibility, and cash collections.
• Cross-train across locations and departments to cover outpatient and Emergency Department areas.
• Greet patients and visitors, provide friendly service, enforce visitor policy as needed.
• Answer calls on main department line and provide facility information.
• Promote MyChart patient portal and self-service to engage patients in their care.
• Assist patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology for online scheduling and arrival processing.
• Coordinate with SLPG practices and Network Prior Authorization to obtain referrals and pre-certs.
• Obtain medical license number, NPI and UPIN for new outpatient entries to ensure proper routing and submissions.
