Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Patient Services Representative I to handle patient registration, verify demographics and insurance, and process financial clearance for scheduled visits. The role emphasizes accuracy, patient empathy, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

The PSR will inform patients of estimated liabilities, collect amounts due, and refer those needing financial counseling. Proficiency in Outlook/Word/Excel and ADT systems is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; patient access, scheduling, registration and financial clearance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, EMTALA rules and pre-certification requirements.
• Experience with Outlook, Word and Excel; familiarity with ADT systems.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and manages patient flow for efficient, courteous service.
• Ensures accurate patient demographics and insurance information.
• Completes registration for walk-ins; updates demographic/insurance changes.
• Calculates and collects patient out-of-pocket liability; pursues past-due amounts.
• Follows financial clearance policy when not yet authorized.
• Identifies patients needing financial assistance and refers to Financial Counselor.
• Performs visit closure and schedules follow-ups; collects responsibilities; provides documents.
• Maintains knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid/third-party payer requirements and accepted plans.
• Communicates issues to management and seeks process improvements.
• Meets productivity and accuracy targets; collaborates with staff for timely information flow.
