Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Office Specialist to support outpatient operations. You will greet patients, check-in/out, verify insurance, collect copayments, and enter data into the EMR to ensure accurate records and smooth scheduling.

In a fast-paced ambulatory setting, you’ll coordinate with clinicians, complete required HIPAA forms, and assist patients with registrations and post-visit needs, upholding confidentiality and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; relevant experience appreciated.
• Associates degree preferred; 1+ years in a patient-facing role is a plus.
• EMR/EHR experience preferred; familiarity with medical records processing.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient satisfaction by providing excellent service through friendly and helpful interactions with patients and visitors.
• Manages patient check-in/check-out process.
• Obtains and verifies required demographic information (date stamp and/or copy insurance card).
• Collects copayment and any applicable balances; verifies insurance eligibility.
• Ensures appropriate referrals are obtained and patient completes required paperwork (ABN, HIPAA forms).
• Accurately enters patient demographic information in EMR and supports scheduling processes.
• Provides assistance to patients with check-in tools and kiosks as needed.
• Escalates issues to ensure optimized provider scheduling and maintains confidentiality.
