Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a patient access professional to greet patients, register information, verify insurance and collect payments. You will coordinate flow, schedule appointments, respond to calls, and maintain records with a focus on a high-quality patient experience.

Responsibilities include triage, charge posting, no-show tracking, and supporting department-wide process improvements in a fast-paced hospital setting. CPR within 90 days is required.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required; substitution allowed for one year of education
• 1 year of relevant education may substitute for one year of required work experience
• Healthcare customer service experience preferred, especially with computerized scheduling and electronic records
• Experience with IDX/GE Centricity is preferred
• CPR certification required within 90 days; other dept certifications may vary by unit

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and coordinate flow through the practice or department
• Register patients, verify insurance and collect copays; post time of service payments
• Schedule appointments and handle referrals; prepare test requisitions as needed
• Answer phones, triage calls and route messages promptly
• Maintain and update patient records; ensure accuracy of demographics and insurance data
• Notify patients about missed appointments and manage no-shows
• Process check-out including charges and demographic/insurance verification
• Support new technology initiatives and process improvements in patient experience
• Maintain neat, professional work areas to reflect MedStar Health positively
• Participate in meetings and quality improvement teams
