Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally acquired through high school education.
• Minimum of one year of work experience directly communicating and providing service to patients or the public; preferably in a healthcare-related field.
• Experience effectively coordinating multiple tasks or activities.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Basic PC and data entry skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and telephone etiquette.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to provide oral and written instructions.
• Ability to interact tactfully with customers and establish and maintain effective relationships.
• Ability to apply departmental policies, rules, and regulations relating to verifying patient information, collecting payments, and maintaining records and forms.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and participate in daily clinic preparation activities
• Review next-day patients and complete next-day preparation activities
• Enter pre-visit orders and prepare new patient charts
• Manage medical records, reports, forms, and related documentation
• Check in patients and verify and update demographic information in Maestro Care
• Identify appropriate patient visit accounts
• Present and explain required forms and obtain signatures
• Manage check-in files and alerts in Maestro Care
• Collect and post copayments and account balances
• Process insurance cards and patient-specific chart documents
• Coordinate laboratory tests and procedures
• Prepare, audit, batch, and post encounter forms and charges
• Schedule tests, procedures, ancillary services, and return appointments
• Explain billing and determine cash collection amounts based on insurance plans
• Check out patients
• Answer telephones and accurately distribute messages and medical information to physicians, nurses, and others
