Job summary

Starling Physicians, part of Summit Health, is hiring a patient access professional to greet visitors, manage registration, and guide patients through the scheduling process. Responsibilities include handling self-pay and payments, insurance verifications, updating records, scheduling appointments, obtaining pre-authorizations, and coordinating referrals across satellite offices.

The role requires excellent customer service, English communication, and proficiency with EHR and practice management

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
• Heartsaver certification within 30 days of hire.
• PSR experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English, written and spoken.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Strong multitasking and organizational abilities.
• Knowledge of medical office terminology preferred.
• Proficient with basic computer use; Windows environment experience.
• Experience with EHR and Practice Management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet visitors, patients, and families in a friendly professional manner and direct them appropriately.
• Maintain an efficient patient flow through the registration process and provide excellent customer service.
• Answer the telephone promptly, direct calls, take messages, and demonstrate appropriate etiquette.
• Informs patients of delays and assists with patient comfort while delayed.
• Posts self-pay charges, collects payments, and provides receipts; reconcile daily payments.
• Open/close batches, reconcile collections, prepare deposits, and document corrections.
• Scan insurance cards, process verifications, and update patient accounts with demographics and HIPAA forms.
• Schedule appointments accurately per guidelines; confirm future appointments and review eligibility.
• Enter orders for tests/procedures; follow workflows for scheduling.
• Coordinate with Patient Care Resources for timely pre-authorizations.
• Complete referrals and enter into the appropriate system.
• Escalate problems to Office Supervisor/Manager promptly.
