Job summary

Akron Children's is seeking a Patient Service Representative to handle front desk duties, patient check-in/out, and billing interactions. The role emphasizes compassion, accurate payment processing, and efficient scheduling to support a positive patient experience.

The position requires a high school diploma and relevant clerical experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and scheduling systems, plus knowledge of medical terminology, is preferred to ensure accurate records and HIPAA

Qualifications

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in clerical or administrative duties is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare environment is preferred.
• Experience with computerized scheduling system is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to perform basic math skills to process insurance co-pays.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and families and provide prompt, caring responses.
• Perform front desk duties including co-pay collection and patient tracking as assigned by supervisor.
• Schedule patient visits and diagnostic testing using hospital procedures and resources.
• Manage third-party payors and collection of co-pays.
• Maintain front desk inventory and complete routine office duties (faxing, copying, filing, mailings).
• Ensure HIPAA compliance.
• Support smooth office operations by prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines.
• Maintain department appearance and waiting area cleanliness.
• Provide clerical cross-coverage as needed.
