Job summary

Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, seeks a Patient Services Specialist in the HBD - Medicine Endocrinology department to support front desk operations, scheduling, and patient registration. You will interact with diverse patients, manage check-in/check-out processes, and coordinate referrals with the Practice Coordinator.

You will use the electronic health record and update insurance details, collect co-pays, and help ensure a smooth patient flow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate's Degree preferred; 3–5 years office experience or 3 years in a medical practice preferred.
• Experience using an electronic health record and Microsoft Office a plus.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a high patient volume unit.
• Strong time management skills; ability to learn and utilize resources.
• Good judgement and problem solving abilities.
• Strong teamwork skills and work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the Practice Coordinator/Manager to coordinate daily check-in, scheduling, check-out and back-end duties.
• Support staff and assist all patients at the front check-in desk.
• Coordinate patient referrals and prior authorizations for testing or procedures.
• Schedule surgical procedures and greet patients courteously.
• Interact with a diverse patient population and maintain professional communication.
• Use the EHR to maintain patient records and registrations; update insurance information and collect co-pays.
• Ensure proper consents for wards of the state and coordinate with facilities for proxies.
• Schedule follow-up appointments and referrals as needed at check-out.
