Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pre-Services Specialist I to serve as the initial touchpoint for patients, coordinating scheduling for hospital and practice services in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

You will verify insurance eligibility, apply benefits, discuss patient financial obligations, and ensure accurate registration across multiple systems, enabling smooth pre-registration and care access.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. required (1–2 years of experience).
• Winning customer service personality with ability to engage patients via telephone with superior patient experience.
• Medical Terminology and Insurance Knowledge – preferred.
• Proven customer service skill with ability to exceed expectations.

Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments and services for assigned service line (POD) via scheduling system.
• Identify trigger words and triage calls to Clinic Nursing team per protocol.
• Verify demographic and insurance information for accurate registration.
• Interpret payer information and determine patient financial responsibility.
• Explain and collect patient financial obligation pre‑services.
• Review referrals/physician orders to meet scheduling needs.
• Manage electronic records and multiple systems during calls.
• Ensure appropriate setting of care is assigned by physician’s office.
