Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a courteous Patient Access Specialist to greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, collect co-pays, and register new visits.

You will coordinate patient flow, schedule follow-ups and tests, answer phones, and support front desk operations to ensure a smooth, professional patient experience.

This role requires excellent communication, basic medical terminology, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• 6 months to 1 year of customer service experience in healthcare preferred.
• Experience with computerized schedules, registration systems, and electronic records.
• Knowledge of IDX/GE Centricity is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and register patients, verify insurance and collect co-pays.
• Schedule and refer appointments and prepare test requisitions.
• Answer phones, provide triage, and relay messages promptly.
• Update and file forms, scans, and maintain patient records.
• Notify patients about missed appointments and track no-shows.
• Handle check-out with charges and demographics updates.
