Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a PRN Patient Service Representative for Liberty, MO. You will be the face of the ambulatory clinic, greeting patients, checking in, handling calls, collecting copays, and coordinating MyChart/EMR requests to support the physician care team.

Responsibilities include scheduling visits (in person, telehealth, surgeries), verifying insurance, processing referrals, and assisting with post-visit follow-up.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED.
• 1 or more years customer service or health care experience
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
• College coursework toward an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
• Clerical, registration and/or customer service experience within a health care setting (preferred)
• Bilingual abilities with documented proficiency (if applicable)

Responsibilities

• Pre-Visit Scheduling: Schedule internal and external referrals.
• Schedules in person appointments, telehealth visits, surgeries, procedures and/or ancillary services using Epic Cadence decision trees.
• Maintains extensive knowledge of appointment types, locations, providers, and specialties.
• Works to achieve a coordinated patient itinerary sometimes consisting of multiple appointments.
• Responsible for registration of patient during the scheduling process, including demographics, insurance verification, MSPQ, scanning and document preparation, updating documentation and processing referrals/orders/appointment requests.
• Preauthorization of clinic specific visits and procedures as needed.
• Assist patient with MyChart activation and support, including how to complete check-in online prior to the appointment.
• During Visit Standard Check-In: High volume check in/out and phone reception.
• Collects all point of service payments (copay, coinsurance, deductibles).
• Post-Visit: Schedule follow up orders creating a patient itinerary.
• Ensure proper front desk coverage until last patient is dismissed.
• Attend department huddles and process improvement initiatives.
• Establish productive relationships with providers and care team.
• Understand patient policies and KU Health System services.
• Maintain awareness of insurance types (HMO, PPO, VA, Medicare).
• Provide coverage at alternate locations as needed.
• Follow PPE guidelines and health system policies.
