Job summary

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a senior-level Patient Coordinator II to initiate contact with patients, verify demographics and insurance, and mentor staff across the front desk. Qualifications

  • 3 years secretarial/directly related experience in a medical practice environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in person or by telephone and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
  • Trains and mentors less experienced Patient Coordinators and administrative staff and discusses issues with Supervisor.
  • Verify insurance prior to patient arrival or at intake to ensure physician accepts the patient's insurance.
  • Coordinate and communicate patient arrival with staff and ensure medical records are available for the physician.
  • Process HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as needed.
  • Collect or retrieve referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
  • Monitor waiting room status and keep patients informed of wait times.
  • Collect co-pays under direction of billing staff and provide receipts.
  • May schedule follow-up appointments and provide patients with records requests guidelines.
  • Participate in performance appraisal and assist in front desk/office activities in absence of Supervisor.
