Job summary

Brown University Health in North Dartmouth, MA is seeking a Patient Service Specialist to join the administrative team. You will handle front-end operations, answer calls, schedule appointments, register patients, and manage insurance eligibility while upholding compassionate service and confidentiality.

You will document interactions in EPIC, process payments, and coordinate with providers and other BHMG practices.

Qualifications

• One to three years as a medical assistant preferred.
• Strong customer service excellence expected.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Experience with EMR strongly preferred. (Athena a plus)
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred

Responsibilities

• Answers calls and routes telephone calls appropriately; takes messages and follows through with each message.
• Provides a high level of customer service to all patients.
• Creates patient cases and documents calls in EPIC.
• Schedules patient appointments and testing as requested.
• Registers patients in EMR and verifies demographics and insurance information; conducts eligibility checks.
• Collects insurance co-pays and balances.
• Follows scheduling notes and sends patient visits to BHMG practices as advised.
• Performs pre-visit planning and insurance eligibility checks.
• Obtains prior authorizations and/or referrals as needed.
• Performs outreach for patient care and quality guidelines; schedules specialty appointments/testing.
• Manages EMR buckets as directed and per practice need.
• Alerts manager to administrative supply needs or ordering.
• Follows up with providers on missing slips and creates claims in EPIC.
• Works assigned revenue cycle buckets as directed.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Adheres to BHMG policies and patient confidentiality.
