Qualifications

• 1–3 years as a medical secretary preferred.
• Strong customer service excellence expected.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Experience with EMR strongly preferred (Athena a plus).
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answers calls and routes messages; provides routine information with approved medical guidance.
• Delivers high level customer service to patients.
• Creates patient cases and documents in Athena or other EMR.
• Schedules appointments and testing as requested.
• Registers patients and verifies demographics and insurance; conducts eligibility checks.
• Collects insurance co-pays and balances.
• Follows scheduling notes and directs scheduling across BHMG practices.
• Performs pre-visit planning and insurance eligibility checks.
• Obtains prior authorizations and/or referrals as needed.
• Performs outreach for select patient groups and schedules specialty appointments.
• Maintains EMR buckets per practice needs.
• Notifies manager of supply needs and assists with ordering.
• Follows up with providers on missing slips and creates claims in Athena.
• Works assigned revenue cycle buckets.
• Maintains independence with minimal supervision.
• Adheres to BHMG policies and protects patient confidentiality.
• Performs other duties as requested.
