Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand English; communicate with patients and staff.
• Completion of Medical Secretary program or equivalent office training.
• One year medical office experience preferred; hospital experience helpful.
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with Windows and databases.
• Professional communication and ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people.

Responsibilities

• Gathers patient demographic and financial information and obtains signatures.
• Answers telephone; assists with bed assignments and communicates with house supervisor.
• Informs patient of hospital regulations; secures armband and signatures on documents.
• Makes determinations regarding need for ABN waiver.
• Escort/transport patient to assigned area; greet patients at registration.
• Scans physician orders, drivers licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.
• Pre-register all scheduled tests.
• Adheres to safety, infection control and HIPAA/EMTALA policies.
