Job summary

MercyOne Northeast Iowa is seeking a Registration Clerk to support the Waterloo Medical Center in the patient intake process. You will gather patient demographics and insurance information, enter data into the system, and help pre-register tests.

This full-time day shift role requires clear English communication, basic medical office experience, and proficient computer skills. You will follow HIPAA, EMTALA, and safety policies while delivering compassionate service to patients.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand English; communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Completion of Medical Secretary program or general office training preferred.
• One year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration) preferred.
• Strong computer skills including Windows; familiarity with databases and mainframe systems.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Gathers patient demographic and financial information and obtains signatures.
• Answers telephone; bed assignments; stat cleans; communicates with house supervisor.
• Informs patients of hospital regulations; secures armband; collects signatures.
• Determines need for hospital issued ABN waiver.
• Pre-registers all scheduled tests.
• Scans documents (orders, licenses, insurance cards, consents).
• Follows HIPAA and EMTALA; adheres to safety policies.
