Job summary

MercyOne Northeast Iowa in Waterloo, IA seeks a Part-time Medical Office Registrar to gather patient demographics and insurance information, enter data into the system, assign rooms and prepare documents. You will pre-register tests, admit patients, coordinate with hospital staff, answer calls, obtain signatures, and ensure HIPAA compliance throughout the registration process.

The position requires completion of an Medical Secretary program or related training, with 1 year medical office

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand English and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians.
• Completion of Medical Secretary program or equivalent preferred.
• One year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration) preferred.
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with database/mainframe systems.

Responsibilities

• Gathers patient demographic and financial information. Obtains signatures.
• Answers phone, assigns beds, orders stat cleans and informs house supervisor.
• Informs patient of hospital rules, secures armband and obtains signatures on documents.
• Determines need for hospital-issued ABN waiver.
• Ensures patient is escorted/transported to assigned area and greets during registration.
• Scans physician orders, licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.
• Pre-registers all scheduled tests.
• Adheres to safety, infection control and HIPAA/EMTALA policies.
