Job summary

Mercy seeks a Patient Access Representative to be the first contact for patients, delivering compassionate service aligned with Mercy Standards. You will manage scheduling, registration, verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance, while explaining costs and assisting with financial resources.

Requirements include 1–3 years of clerical and customer service experience, a high school diploma, and familiarity with insurance plans.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, excellent telephone etiquette required.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff and insurance companies.
• Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
• Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines and perform all daily assignments with a high level of accuracy.
• Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems; Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard.
• Ability to discuss patient financial responsibility, outstanding balances, payment options, and financial assistance resources with confidence, professionalism, empathy, and accountability.
• Ability to respond appropriately to patient questions or concerns, explain available financial resources, and complete required referrals.
• Ability to consistently follow and document established patient financial engagement and collection workflows.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate patient entrance into Mercy facilities, including scheduling, registration, and verification.
• Perform pre-certification and financial clearance; collect patient financial responsibility when applicable.
• Maintain accurate patient data and document financial conversations and outcomes.
