Job summary

The University of Virginia is seeking a Patient Services Coord III to schedule and register patients for the outpatient clinic, verify eligibility, and secure necessary pre-authorizations. This role works closely with physician offices, Utilization Review, and the Business Office to ensure seamless patient access and accurate billing.

The incumbent will provide empathetic customer service, maintain accurate patient records, and support flexible, fast-paced healthcare operations across UVA Health

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience: 1 year of clerical experience in a medical office setting required.
• Licensure: None.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing and possess a high degree of excellent customer service skills.
• Background of insurance knowledge is required for certain tasks assigned.
• Ability to comprehend insurance cards and benefit details.
• Ability to deal directly with the public in a professional and empathetic manner.
• Preferred: Background/knowledge of government/state and patient assistance programs.
• Preferred: ICD-10 and CPT coding knowledge.
• Strong computer skills.
• Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office preferred.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and registers patients for the outpatient clinic.
• Verifies eligibility for patients and ensures all pre-authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications are obtained as necessary by working closely with the physician offices, Utilization Review and Business Office Departments.
• Perform other job-related duties as directed by the Supervisor.
