Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System seeks a Patient Coordinator I in the Rehabilitation and Human Performance department. The role greets patients, updates demographics and insurance, and verifies coverage to ensure proper insurance for the physician seen.

Staff communications ensure patient records are ready and HIPAA forms are processed. The coordinator may collect co-pays, schedule follow-ups, and handle simple charge entries or payments for deposits.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED.
• 1 year physician practice experience.
• On-site training at least one week provided.
• Experience in a medical office setting preferred.
• IDX or other practice management system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in person or by phone and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
• Verify that physician accepts presented insurance; verify prior to visit or at arrival.
• Notify staff about patient arrival and ensure medical records are available.
• Process HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
• Collect co-pays and provide receipts following cash-control procedures.
• May schedule follow-up appointments and provide patient with records request guidelines.
• May perform simple charge entry or process payments and prepare deposits.
• Answer phones for the practice and schedule appointments in a call-center capacity.
• Follow HIPAA and PHI handling requirements.
• Initiate reminder calls for next day appointments.
• Perform other related duties.
