Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Patient Coordinator I in New York City to greet patients, update demographics and verify insurance at arrival. You will help ensure the correct physician coverage and prepare patient records for the visit.

The role includes HIPAA compliance, coordinating referrals, collecting co-pays, and scheduling follow-ups as needed. Training and on-site learning will support your success in a busy clinical environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 1 year of physician practice experience.
  • On-site training for one week will be provided.
  • Experience with medical office scheduling systems preferred.
  • IDX or similar practice management system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
  • Verify that physician accepts patient insurance and verify at arrival.
  • Coordinate patient arrivals with staff and ensure medical records are available.
  • Process HIPAA paperwork and other institutional forms.
  • Collect referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
  • Monitor waiting room status and communicate wait times.
  • Collect co-pays and provide receipts per cash-control processes.
  • May schedule follow-up appointments and explain how to request medical records.
  • May perform simple charge entry or enter payments and prepare deposits.
  • Handle calls for the Faculty Practice Associates and answer phones.
  • Follow HIPAA and government requirements for PHI.
  • May initiate reminder calls for next day appointments.
  • Perform other related duties.
