Mount Sinai Health System is seeking an Offsite Patient Coordinator to greet patients and establish initial contact. The role includes updating demographics and insurance verification to ensure appropriate coverage for the physician being seen.

The position requires a high school diploma and about one year of physician practice experience, with on-site training provided. Prior medical office experience and scheduling systems proficiency are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School graduate/GED.
• 1 year physician practice experience.
• Must have a minimum of one week training on-site which will be provided by practice.
• Prefer experience in a medical office setting, utilizing a computer system for physician scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients in person or via telephone and updates insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
• Assures physician accepts the insurance presented; verifies insurance prior to or at arrival.
• Communicate with staff regarding patient arrival and ensure medical record is available.
• Processes/updates HIPAA-related paperwork and other forms as needed.
• Collects referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
• Reviews waiting room status and informs patients of wait times.
• Collection of co-pays or receipt of co-pays under supervision of billing staff.
• Schedules follow-up appointments and provides guidelines for requesting medical records.
• May perform simple charge entry tasks or enter payments and prepare cash deposits.
• Answers phones and schedules appointments.
• Follows HIPAA and other PHI handling requirements.
• Initiates reminder phone calls for next day appointments.
• Performs other related duties.
