Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Patient Encounter Associate to support patient reception, scheduling, pre-registration and insurance pre-clearance, ensuring satisfaction and proper reimbursement.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, collecting demographics and insurance data, scheduling, authorizations, and HIPAA compliant handling of PHI. On-site training is provided; prior experience in medical offices is preferred.

Qualifications

• HS/GED; Associates degree preferred
• 1 year physician practice experience. Must have a minimum of one week training on-site which will be provided by practice.
• Preferred: experience in a medical office setting, utilizing a computer system for physician scheduling

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in person and by telephone and update their insurance/demographic information in the practice management system.
• Gathers registration and financial information for patient pre-registration, enters the information into the practice management system and ensures entries are complete and accurate.
• Answers phones for the practice; schedules, re-schedules and cancels patient appointments.
• Contacts patients at home to confirm scheduled and canceled appointments.
• Performs full registration at arrival, including verification of demographics, financial screening, insurance verification with third parties, and Medicare as Secondary Payer where appropriate.
• Ensures patient has paid or collects co-pays under billing management guidance, provides receipts.
• May perform simple to moderately-complex charge entry tasks or enter payments and prepare deposits.
• Facilitates prior authorization and scheduling for diagnostic testing requested by providers.
• Reviews waiting room status and informs patients of wait times.
• Ensures prior approval and required procedures are met before delivery of care by coordinating with other departments.
• Reconciles daily patient schedule with encounters closed.
• Works billing edit reports and reviews encounters for corrections.
• Scans documents into EPIC daily.
• Participates in system development and process improvement by providing feedback on registration and posting issues.
• Follows HIPAA and other regulations for PHI handling.
• Other duties as assigned.
