Job summary

Genesis HealthCare System in Moline, IL is seeking an Access Center Specialist for the Patient Access Center. You will be the first point of contact for referring physicians and patients, handling appointment scheduling, referrals, and triage of calls in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include scheduling, maintaining provider schedules, managing worklists and processing faxes. You will ensure referrals are answered within 24 business hours and document interactions in the system.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year professional office, customer service or patient care experience.
• Basic understanding of medical procedures, processes and knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision under pressure in a complex and changing working environment, where multi-tasking is critical.
• Demonstrates solid interpersonal communication skills to include listening, written, verbal and telephone etiquette.
• Excellent computer skills with experience using MS Office, with ability to learn department specific computer programs.
• Ability to problem-solve, organize and prioritize workload to complete projects and deadlines in a timely manner and ensures team efficiency.
• Ability to provide outstanding customer service with the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
• Is flexible in handling changes in work priorities and handles multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Answers inbound calls in a timely manner and provides callers with the highest level of customer experience.
• Schedules patients with appropriate appointments and communicates times to patients and referring offices.
• Documents all call information in designated software accurately and timely.
• Makes outreach calls to remind patients of upcoming appointments.
• Relays and elevates critical patient symptoms to clinical staff when appropriate.
• Monitors provider schedules and fills empty appointment slots for timely patient care.
• Processes all medical records requests for payers, government entities and patients.
• Distributes incoming faxes electronically in a timely and accurate manner.
• Assists with gathering information for requests and reports.
• Shares issues and possible solutions with supervisor or leadership.
• Participates in workshops and cross-training to improve efficiency.
• Maintains positive relationships with department, patients and providers, treating everyone with dignity and respect.
• Other duties as assigned.
