Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System seeks a patient access representative to register, schedule and perform related processing duties for all patients. This role uses EMR systems to verify information, collect co-pays and balance upfront collections while providing compassionate frontline service.

The position reports to the Practice Manager and requires strong administrative skills, medical terminology knowledge, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Prior scheduling experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical terminology, keyboarding and computer skills preferred.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills preferred.
• Scheduling experience preferred.
• Computer literacy required.
• Broad range of administrative and technical skills in healthcare.
• Ability to work independently and with others.

Responsibilities

• Answers phone with correct salutation and takes messages.
• Documents messages into EMR.
• Greets patients warmly and professionally.
• Verifies demographics and insurance; updates EMR as needed.
• Checks in and checks out patients in EMR.
• Updates, scans and attaches forms into EMR.
• Generates No Show letters in EMR when needed.
• Collects faxes, scans into EMR and distributes.
• Collects co-pays and posts to accounts; provides receipts.
• Schedules follow-up appointments and testing after precertification.
• Completes medical records requests and referrals in EMR.
• Runs and reconciles receipts per protocol.
• Verifies insurance coverage.
• Completes end-of-day deposits and reports to balance upfront collections.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
