Job summary

Nicklaus Children\'s Health System in Ohio is seeking an Administrative Clerk for patient access. You greet patients and families, collect demographics, insurance and payment information, and schedule or pre-register services.

Responsibilities include obtaining authorizations, processing payments, verifying payer information, and documenting activities in the hospital system. Strong communication and confidentiality are essential, with Spanish language skills a plus.

Qualifications

• 1 year of customer service experience.
• High school education or equivalent preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing, in a clear, concise, and courteous manner.
• Fluent in Spanish strongly preferred.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Able to accurately enter and interpret data.
• Able to adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions in a pleasant manner.
• Able to serve customers with courtesy and respect.
• Able to learn and use system-wide hospital application(s).
• Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Ability to follow complex written or verbal instructions to solve problems.
• Able to establish necessary professional relationships, interact, and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
• Able to effectively manage and use resources to successfully meet the competing deadlines of a variety of tasks, problems, and projects.
• Able to take and respond to on-call shift or shifts as assigned on weekdays, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families in person or on the telephone in a respectful and empathetic manner.
• Responds to questions and problems and keeps open lines of communication with patients/families.
• Complies with HIPAA and EMTALA.
• Interviews patients to obtain demographic, payer, financial/medical information for scheduling or pre-register/register.
• Collects payments and provides receipts.
• Verifies third party payer information via web or telephone.
• Obtains and documents authorization for hospital services via web or fax.
• Documents activities in the Collection Notes file in the computer system.
• Obtains necessary consents andLiving Will documents when appropriate.
• Directs families to locations in the facility by phone/text/email.
• Notifies management of insurance/financial discrepancies for approval.
• Communicates with departments to accommodate special needs.
• Obtains and validates prescriptions and clinical documents when appropriate.
• Schedules hospital services and triages facility inquiries.
• Identifies duplicate financial/medical numbers and handles as appropriate.
• Performs downtime manual registration as needed.
